Gary Lynch is the Executive of Excellence, Lead for Strategic Initiatives in the Center for Market Advantage at Rutgers University.  He is also Founder and CEO of The Risk Project, LLC, a global risk advisory and research firm that uses performance-based approaches to help business executives identify, assess and manage their most significant exposures. 
 
Previously, Mr. Lynch was global leader of Marsh Risk Consulting’s Risk Intelligence Strategies and Resiliency Solutions practice from 2004 to 2013. In this position, he led development of the firm’s risk intelligence capabilities, strategic and supply chain risk management, among other key offerings.   Under his direction, Marsh earned distinction as “World’s Best Supply Chain Risk Consulting Provider” by Global Finance magazine and “Top 25 Information Manager” by Information Management magazine.  Appointed to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Advisory Committee on Supply Chain Competitiveness in 2012, he works with 35 other members to advise the Secretary of Commerce and President.
 
Before joining Marsh, Mr. Lynch served as management consultant and partner at both Booz Allen Hamilton and Ernst & Young. During the course of his career, he also was global research director and market analyst with Gartner Group, launching one of its most successful research offerings, and he was chief information security officer and business continuity executive at Chase Manhattan Bank (now JPMorgan Chase) and The Prudential.
 
The author of two books, At Your Own Risk (Wiley 2008) and Single Point of Failure: 10 Essential Laws of Supply Chain Risk Management (Wiley 2009), he also was a contributor to Supply Chain Disruptions: Theory and Practice of Managing Risk.  In 2012, Mr. Lynch was appointed a senior research fellow for the Supply Chain Management Center at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.
 
The U.S. Secret Service recognized Mr. Lynch with a Commendation for 9/11 disaster response and support activity and he received a Silver Medal of Valor from the Nassau County Fire Service.   He earned a B.S. degree in Finance from New York Institute of Technology and holds the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) designation.
 
An advisor to the World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Risk Network, he has been a panelist or featured speaker for Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), World Customs Organization (WCO), Global Entreopolis@Singapore, National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS), and Australian Risk Management and Insurance Society.  He also has been a guest lecturer at numerous colleges and universities, including NYU’s Stern School of Management, MIT’s Center for Transportation and Logistics, and Wharton’s Center for Risk Management and Decision Processes.
