Christopher Calabretta

Chris Calabretta is the Global Procurement Lead for Biologic Materials and Vaccines. Chris has been with J&J for 24 years. In this role he is responsible for setting the category strategy, strategic sourcing and supplier management of the raw materials for global production of biologics and vaccines.

Chris’ career with J&J includes Distribution, Plant Management, New Product Launches, Supply Chain, and Strategic Sourcing. He began his career with McNeil Consumer Products in the Fort Washington, PA campus as a Distribution Supervisor and then as a Plant Projects Manager responsible for implementation of new product development, capital installations, and technical improvements. He moved to Johnson & Johnson / Merck Joint Venture to manage new product launches and to manage Supply and Demand Planning.

Chris’ career in Procurement began when he moved back into McNeil managing the Consulting, Capital and IT spends. He then moved into the Pharmaceutical side of J&J and assumed the World Wide Category Manager Role for Marketing Research. Chris then accepted the role of Vice President of the North American Pharmaceutical Procurement & the Global Marketing Procurement Category. In this senior role, he was responsible for the Commercial spend for the North American Pharma businesses and setting the strategy for Marketing Procurement across J&J on a global scope. This includes all Marketing Services, Agencies, Global Strategic Insights, Marketing Operations, Professional Education, Distributors and Consulting.

Chris received his BS from Penn State University and a Masters of Business from Villanova University. He is married to his wife, Louise and has three young sons, Christian, Braden and Andrew.

Jill Joy Rankin, C.P.M. Global Category Manager, is part of a Global Sourcing Team at Boehringer Ingelheim, whose corporate offices are based in Ingelheim, Germany. Jill is based out of Ridgefield Connecticut and is currently responsible for Global Sourcing initiatives for domestic and international programs. She has extensive leadership and cross functional experience across Sourcing and Procurement for more than 20 years. She currently supports Contract Sales Organizations, Meetings, Congresses, Sales Training, and Print management at the global level and works across many cross functional teams at BI. 

Prior to Boehringer Ingelheim, Jill supported Sourcing and Procurement Categories as Associate Director at Novartis Consumer Health which included Global Category strategy management of their Marketing Services and Digital Services programs as part of their Over the Counter (OTC) Division.  In addition she worked in Strategic sourcing group for Johnson and Johnson, based in New Brunswick New Jersey as part of a shared services team function supporting and leading Strategic Sourcing specific categories across three business sectors including Pharma, Consumer and Medical Devise Business units. Jill was previously based on the West Coast as part of the Purchasing team for Neutrogena supporting all Supply Chain plant site functions. 

Jill has been in a Procurement function across multiple industries including Software, Health and Beauty, and worked in manufacturing leading the purchasing team for a Billion dollar Global Corporation in the Food industry as well as experience working for Wella Corporation running the Purchasing function for their West Coast division. Bert has over 25 years of experience in the Power, Tobacco, Chemical, and Pharmaceutical Industries, as both a contractor and client.  He has held numerous roles of increasing responsibility in maintenance, operations, quality systems and supplier quality, supply chain, and purchasing.  Prior to Boehringer Ingelheim, Bert worked for companies such as BE&K Construction, Instrument Control Service, AlliedSignal Corporation, and Honeywell International.

In 2004, Bert joined Boehringer Ingelheim at its API facility in Petersburg, VA, USA as the buyer for direct materials and services.  In addition to direct materials procurement, he has also led indirect procurement and has served as a global lead buyer for chemical process equipment.  Prior to becoming the Head of Purchasing at BICI, he was the Head of Supply Chain.

Since 2012, Bert has been the Director of Purchasing Intelligence and PMO for Boehringer Ingelheim USA Corporation.  He leads an international team of analyst and project managers who provide spend analytics, supply market intelligence, and project management for Global Sourcing.  Bert is also the sourcing coordinator for BI’s Rest of World Countries.

He has managed budgets in excess of $600M and successfully elevated strategic sourcing solutions to focus on increasing and managing the total value of supplier delivered services.  When structuring a sound supplier partnership, its Greg’s perspective that quality, service level, innovation, and cost must all be taken into account.  Under Greg’s leadership, Shire’s Global Procurement’s influence on the commercial business grew from 50% to ~80%.

Arash Azadegan (PhD, W.P. Carey School of Business, Arizona State University) is an Associate Professor at Rutgers Business School and the Director of Supply Chain Disruption Research Laboratory (SCDrl). Dr. Azadegan has over a decade of industrial experience with Fortune 100 companies such as Quaker Oats, Ralston Purina and Ford Motor. His research focuses on supply chain disruptions, and the effect of organizational response and recovery efforts to mitigate them. He has ongoing experiment based research projects on the role of organizational, leadership and supply chain resilience in the face of natural and man-made disruptions. He leads the efforts of a small team of PhD and graduate students at the SCDrl on several studies to assess firm behavior in response and in recovering from disruptions. Dr. Azadegan’s work is published in several top Operation and Supply Chain Management journals including the Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Supply Chain Management, Production and Operations Management Journal, and the Decision Sciences Journal among others. Dr. Azadegan is an officer of the OM Division at the Academy of Management, an active member of the Decision Sciences Institute. He was recently recognized as a Galactic Hero at the Buzz Light Year Ranger Spin at Disney World, Orlando.

Currently responsible for global category leadership in the areas of patient services, secondary market distribution (wholesalers and retail) and market research (including Health Economics and Outcomes Research) for all divisions across Novartis.  Previously, Joe was the Global Oncology Head of Strategic Sourcing and Productivity responsible for the ongoing leadership of the Global Oncology Procurement team. This included developing and implementing the sourcing strategies of all indirect spend categories which included research and development, marketing, IT, and corporate spend categories. Additionally, he developed and implemented the overall Novartis Global Oncology productivity plan using Lean Sigma principles to simplify business processes across the organization.  Prior to joining Novartis, Joe held various leadership roles during a 10-year career with GE Healthcare.  Additionally, Joe was a Captain in the US Army.

He holds a Master Degree in Developmental and Cellular Biology and a Bachelor Degree in Biology from the American University, and an MBA from Babson College. Joe is also a certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt.

Subs’ responsibilities include developing and implementing the sourcing strategies of all indirect spend categories which included research and development, marketing and corporate spend categories. He has extensive leadership experience across Sourcing and Finance in his 11 years at Novartis. This includes sourcing operations, category management, shared services and financial planning and analysis.

Prior to Novartis, he has worked in Alcoa and other consulting companies across Europe, Asia and the USA. He has an Engineering degree, an MBA and a Masters in eBusiness.

Chantal Sarmanoukian is currently the Head of Global Indirect Procurement for Shire. The Indirect Pillar at Shire includes categories such as Commercial, IT and Technology Enablement, Professional Services, Travel and Fleet. Chantal joined Shire in 2005 as Director R&D Procurement and during her ten year tenure has led many of the other categories listed above.  Shire is one of the world’s leading specialty biopharmaceutical companies—but, more importantly, Shire makes a difference to people with life-altering conditions, enabling them to lead better lives. The patient-focused culture comes to life through its employees, who together form One Shire. Shire has over 5,300 employee with products marketed in over 50 countries. 2014 product sales were $5.8B.  In her role, Chantal and her team are responsible for collaboratively building strategic sourcing solutions for Shire’s businesses around the globe. They manage global activities ranging from strategic category sourcing to supply management to operational procurement. Her team is located in both North America and Europe. Prior to Shire, Chantal held various positions at Bristol-Myers Squibb in the Pharmaceutical Research Institute and in Global Strategic Sourcing focused primarily in the R&D functions. Chantal holds a MBA in Strategic Management and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology both from Rutgers University.
Ray Kane

Ray Kane brings 20 years of experience to his current role as Executive Director, Human Capital Solutions for Allegis Global Solutions (AGS). Ray is responsible for guiding companies in their workforce management as he collaborates with them to design and deploy enterprise-wide solutions, advising on best practices and continuously providing thought leadership utilizing his subject matter expertise. As a first point of contact for companies seeking information regarding workforce management solutions, Ray works in partnership with business development leadership to bring in and qualify leads. He attends industry events and develops brand awareness, educates companies on hiring and staffing solutions and strategically aligns potential clients to the appropriate regional contacts. Prior to his current role at AGS, Ray held multiple leadership positions at Aerotek, an Allegis Group staffing company. In fact, Ray began his career at Aerotek as a technical recruiter in 1995 and quickly moved into the Account Executive role. Later, Ray was promoted into Director of National Sales and he utilized experiences gained here to become Vice President of Strategic Sales for Aerotek’s Life Sciences division for seven years and the Eastern Region for another two years before joining AGS. Ray earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Virginia.

Brenda Miller

Brenda Miller Is a 25 year industry professional serving in the role as a Global Program Director for a large SMM (Strategic Meetings Management) Client for CWT Meetings & Events. Brenda’s experience spans not only the meetings and travel space but also experience from the customer side within an established procurement community.  As such, Brenda was responsible for negotiating and sourcing global travel and meeting vendors for a $200MM meetings and $350MM travel program.  Brenda since 2010, has been a leader in the development of best in class strategic meetings programs. Brenda currently supports a large pharmaceutical client and manages their SMM program globally including support for over 20 countries, managing 3rd party meeting supplier performance and all regulatory and compliance reporting processes.
 
Brenda holds a BS in Accounting/Finance.  She has held various roles in her career including procurement, project management, contract negotiations/analysis, operations management and program/account management.

Mary Kachinsky

Mary brings over 25 years’ experience as a strategic partner and business leader in the research, development and manufacturing procurement functions spanning across  the pharmaceutical, biotech and consumer electronics industries.  Prior to her current role at FORMA, Mary worked at Cubist Pharmaceuticals where she launched the Strategic Sourcing organization in 2011, with a robust change management strategy requiring engagement and participation across the enterprise. Under Mary’s leadership, the Sourcing organization successfully supported Cubist’s growing portfolio and clinical trials pipeline through cost savings initiatives and efforts to build a sustainable supply network. Previous to Cubist, Mary held various leadership positions for 8 years at Pfizer, where she most recently led the Global Scientific Materials organization and supported the outsourcing of clinical trials at Pfizer Global R&D. She also held senior leadership positions at Genzyme, Waters, and Bose Corporation.

Mary is an Executive Member of Linking Leaders Clinical Outsourcing Roundtable and is a member of the Bio-Supply Management Alliance Board of Advisors.  She received the 2013 NESCON Supply Chain Hall of Fame Award and the 2009 Harry J. Graham Award from the Purchasing Management Association of Boston (PMAB), affiliate of ISM, for her generous volunteer work.  In addition, Mary is an Advisor on the PMAB Board of Directors, where she has also served as President.  She is a Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) and a Lifetime Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.).  Mary earned her Master of Science in Management from the Lally School of Management, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and her Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from the Carroll School of Management, Boston College.

Mike Lendach

Since graduating from Wake Forest University, Mike has obtained 25 years of experience in the Human Resources industry.  Early career industry experience included technology and staffing services. 

The last 13 years have been spent with Quintiles in the Healthcare (clinical research) arena.  Mike began as the Manager of Recruitment for North America, a role in which he managed a team that delivered staffing fulfillment of all skillsets to the North American line managers.  He has since progressed through increasing responsibilities, culminating in his current role as Senior Director, HR Staffing Systems.  In this position, he oversees global responsibility for all staffing related systems, including the Taleo applicant tracking system and the Fieldglass contingent labor system. 

Mike’s team has been responsible for the deployment and support of the Taleo system into over 60 countries at Quintiles, translated into 8 languages.  Mike oversees the contingent labor program, including managing the relationships with the MSP management partner and the VMS technology partner, and also overseeing new product/country implementations for expansion.  Lastly, Mike is also in charge of global recruitment advertising for staffing services, which includes contract negotiation, utilization oversight, and account management. 

Mike lives in Raleigh, NC with his wife and 2 children.  When not working or attending family events, he can usually be found on the golf course.
Gary S. Lynch

Gary Lynch is the Executive of Excellence, Lead for Strategic Initiatives in the Center for Market Advantage at Rutgers University.  He is also Founder and CEO of The Risk Project, LLC, a global risk advisory and research firm that uses performance-based approaches to help business executives identify, assess and manage their most significant exposures. 
 
Previously, Mr. Lynch was global leader of Marsh Risk Consulting’s Risk Intelligence Strategies and Resiliency Solutions practice from 2004 to 2013. In this position, he led development of the firm’s risk intelligence capabilities, strategic and supply chain risk management, among other key offerings.   Under his direction, Marsh earned distinction as “World’s Best Supply Chain Risk Consulting Provider” by Global Finance magazine and “Top 25 Information Manager” by Information Management magazine.  Appointed to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Advisory Committee on Supply Chain Competitiveness in 2012, he works with 35 other members to advise the Secretary of Commerce and President.
 
Before joining Marsh, Mr. Lynch served as management consultant and partner at both Booz Allen Hamilton and Ernst & Young. During the course of his career, he also was global research director and market analyst with Gartner Group, launching one of its most successful research offerings, and he was chief information security officer and business continuity executive at Chase Manhattan Bank (now JPMorgan Chase) and The Prudential.
 
The author of two books, At Your Own Risk (Wiley 2008) and Single Point of Failure: 10 Essential Laws of Supply Chain Risk Management (Wiley 2009), he also was a contributor to Supply Chain Disruptions: Theory and Practice of Managing Risk.  In 2012, Mr. Lynch was appointed a senior research fellow for the Supply Chain Management Center at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.
 
The U.S. Secret Service recognized Mr. Lynch with a Commendation for 9/11 disaster response and support activity and he received a Silver Medal of Valor from the Nassau County Fire Service.   He earned a B.S. degree in Finance from New York Institute of Technology and holds the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) designation.
 
An advisor to the World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Risk Network, he has been a panelist or featured speaker for Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), World Customs Organization (WCO), Global Entreopolis@Singapore, National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS), and Australian Risk Management and Insurance Society.  He also has been a guest lecturer at numerous colleges and universities, including NYU’s Stern School of Management, MIT’s Center for Transportation and Logistics, and Wharton’s Center for Risk Management and Decision Processes.
Jon Lightman

Jon Leisner

Jon Leisner is the Assistant Director, Sourcing and Facilities for AMRI, a contract research and manufacturing organization headquartered in Albany, New York. In this role, he is responsible for the procurement of indirect goods and services for AMRI’s global facilities, as well as the logistics and facilities management functions related to AMRI’s R&D and small-scale manufacturing facilities in New York and Massachusetts. Additionally, he also serves in an advisory capacity for the procurement of direct materials and supplies for AMRI’s aseptic manufacturing facilities in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Burlington, Massachusetts. He has been a member of AMRI’s team since 2008.

Prior to joining AMRI, Jon was a Direct Material Sourcing Leader for Momentive Performance Materials (formerly GE Silicones) in Waterford, New York, from 2005 - 2008. In this role, he was responsible for the procurement of key raw materials, fillers, pigments and additives. Prior to that, Jon served as a commissioned officer in the United States Navy, with a specialty in Surface Warfare. Jon served on two warships, the USS MITSCHER (DDG 57) and the USS CAPE ST. GEORGE (CG 73), in divisional leadership roles within the Operations and Engineering Departments. His responsibilities included management of shipboard communications systems, gas turbine engines and generators, and deck seamanship processes.

A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jon graduated with merit from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Jon also holds a Master of Engineering degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.

Martisse Best is the Global Account Lead for IT Hosting and Storage (ITHS) at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK).  She is a graduate of Washburn Law School, and served in the United States Military for 12 years.  As a second lieutenant, she was commissioned as a Logistics Officer, stationed in Seoul, South Korea, and Fort Lee, Virginia for over six years.  In 2005, she applied and was accepted into the Army’s fully funded legal program, whereby after graduation, she served as a prosecutor in the Judge Advocate Generals Corps at Fort Knox, Kentucky.   She has also held positions as an Administrative, Ethics, and Contract Attorney.  After serving her obligation in the Army, she decided to try something new in the business world and was hired by GSK as a Legal Procurement category manager.  After a year of legal procurement, Martisse moved into the IT space as a category manger for software and services, culminating in her current position as the Global ITHS Procurement Lead for GSK.
